Born in 1976, Raquel Torres-Arzola is a Puerto Rico based contemporary artist and writer working with photography, installations and writing as principal mediums. At this moment, Raquel is an MFA candidate of the graduate Photography Department at the San Francisco Art Institute in California.
She has worked professionally as a photographer, photojournalist and press writer since 2005 and has been showing her work as an artist since 2009.
For the last year, she has been collaborating as a photography critique and writer for the socio-cultural criticism newsletter CRUCE.
Raquel earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Puerto Rican and Caribbean History from the University of Puerto Rico in 1999. She attended basic and intermediate photography courses at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas and the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, and advanced and experimental photography workshops with recognized photographers and artists. She finished an MAG in 2009 and has been attending graduate courses in Puerto Rican Contemporary Art History and Theory from the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe.
She has travelled through the continental US and through the Spanish, French and Anglo Caribbean countries as part of her photography and writing researches.
Actually, Raquel is a Lecturer Professor at the University of Puerto Rico, Carolina Campus and the Ana G. Méndez System.
